Catching Up with Unity Terrace & Ashburn Chase

Mindy - Unity Terrace

Game night is on! Mindy shares, "Prime CHD hosted a Family Game Night and Dinner at Unity Terrace, coordinated by Mindy, bringing residents together for an evening of food, laughter, and positive family engagement. Families gathered to enjoy a shared meal and participate in interactive games that encouraged teamwork, communication, and meaningful connection among parents, children, and neighbors.

The event created a welcoming environment where families could spend quality time together, strengthen relationships, and build supportive connections within the community. Activities throughout the evening promoted social interaction, problem-solving, cooperation, and positive youth engagement in a safe and encouraging setting."

The fun didn't stop there--according to Mindy, "On May 5, 2026, Prime CHD hosted a family-centered afterschool enrichment event at Unity Terrace focused on painting, creativity, youth engagement, and family connection. Coordinated by Mindy Poling, the activity brought together children and parents in a safe, supportive community setting designed to encourage learning, relationship-building, and personal growth through creative expression.

The hands-on painting session provided more than an artistic outlet. In alignment with HUD Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) principles, family-centered educational and enrichment activities support long-term household stability by encouraging positive youth development, strengthening family engagement, and increasing community participation."

Lucia - Ashburn Chase

Lucia says, "In celebration of Earth Day, our young residents (elementary & middle school students) took the lead in making a meaningful impact within our community. With great enthusiasm and teamwork, our students organized and carried out a full building clean-up—covering every floor from top to bottom, as well as the surrounding parking lot. Their dedication and pride in their environment were truly inspiring.

The day was filled with positive energy as students worked together, demonstrating responsibility, leadership, and a shared commitment to keeping their community clean and welcoming. Their efforts not only refreshed the space but also strengthened unity and a sense of ownership among the youth.

As part of the celebration, students also engaged in a hands-on gardening activity. Each child planted their favorite vegetable seeds—including tomatoes and sweet bell peppers—using their own painted clay pots, which they proudly took home. This activity encouraged sustainability, creativity, and a deeper connection to caring for the environment.

As a token of appreciation, we hosted a pizza party to celebrate their hard work and commitment. It was a joyful time filled with laughter, connection, and well-deserved recognition.

We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing intern, Somayya, who worked alongside the Resident Services Coordinator to help lead and support this project. As she completes her internship with Prime Community and Housing Development, we celebrate the sweet memories and lasting impact she has made in our community. Her dedication, leadership, and heart for service will truly be missed.

This Earth Day initiative was a beautiful reminder that even the youngest among us can lead powerful change."
