Ladies Life Skills Class: Creative Self-Sufficiency Workshop
Mindy reports, "Participants gathered for a hands-on life skills workshop focused on practical creativity and resourcefulness. During this session, women learned foundational crochet techniques using both traditional yarn and recycled fabric from repurposed clothing. Each participant created handmade washcloths that can be used for household cleaning, personal care, affordable gift-giving, or as starter inventory for a small home-based business.
The session also included a Valentine’s Day themed activity and craft, encouraging personal expression, confidence building, and positive social engagement. The atmosphere promoted peer support, skill sharing, and encouragement, creating a safe and empowering learning environment."
Next, she shared photos from Unity Terrace's Family Self-Sufficiency Bingo & Chicken Dinner Community Event, saying, "The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Bingo and Chicken Dinner event was held as a community engagement and social participation activity designed to strengthen resident connections, increase program visibility, and encourage continued participation in self-sufficiency programming.
This event provided a welcoming, low-barrier opportunity for participants and their families to gather in a positive environment, reducing social isolation and fostering peer relationships. Activities such as bingo encouraged communication, teamwork, and informal networking among residents, while the shared meal supported a sense of belonging and community cohesion."

Finally, residents at Unity Terrace enjoyed learning how to make bread! Mindy reports, "The FSS Life Skills Sourdough Bread Making class was offered as a hands-on skill-building workshop focused on practical home economics, resourcefulness, and confidence in independent living skills.
Participants learned foundational concepts including basic food preparation, cost-effective meal planning, kitchen safety, and the process of maintaining and using a sourdough starter. The class emphasized how simple, low-cost ingredients can be used to create nutritious food at home, supporting household budgeting and food security."

Lucia - Ashburn Chase
Lucia reports, "Excitement filled the room as our Elementary students proudly participated in the successful rollout of the Capstone Nutrition Program! Authored by Joseph Thomas, our Prime intern, this dynamic program brought energy, hands-on learning, and meaningful conversations about healthy eating, balanced meals, and smart food choices. The students were fully engaged, asking questions, sharing ideas, and eager to apply what they learned.
We extend our heartfelt thank you to Ms. Somayya, our dedicated intern, for faithfully facilitating and presenting the lessons each week. Her consistency, care, and enthusiasm truly brought the curriculum to life and made a lasting impact on our students. We are deeply grateful for the commitment of our interns and Prime’s continued support in promoting the health and well-being of our children. This program is an empowering step toward building healthier habits and brighter futures for young learners."
Additionally, Ashburn Chase hosted a Neighbor Up Night!
Lucia says, "Our Neighbor Up Night Community Event held on Thursday, February 26 was a great success, with over 20 residents in attendance—despite the Ramadan season. We sincerely appreciate everyone who took the time to come out and stay engaged during this meaningful time for many of our families.
The Property Management team did an excellent job sharing important updates and thoughtfully addressing residents’ questions, particularly regarding current towing concerns and ongoing safety efforts within the community. Their transparency and responsiveness created a productive and respectful conversation.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Robert and Kyle from Verizon for generously sponsoring the food for the evening and for speaking directly with residents about available discount services and cost-saving programs. Their partnership and willingness to connect one-on-one with residents added tremendous value to the event.
The Resident Services team shared updates on ongoing programs including our Capstone nutrition program for our youth, reintroduced our amazing intern, Somayya, and encouraged residents to stay connected and actively participate in upcoming community events.
A special thank you to our dedicated Resident Services Intern, Somayya, for staying beyond event hours to assist with cleanup. Your commitment and servant leadership—especially during the Ramadan season—truly reflect the heart of community service.
Overall, the evening was a wonderful reminder that when we come together, stay informed, and support one another, we continue building a stronger and more united community."
